I'd read good things about D.L. Bliss State Park's campground. It was early
in the year, so snow limited our choices somewhat, so D.L. Bliss seemed like a
good choice for camping. It's situated just north of Emerald Bay, which is
just north of South Lake Tahoe along Highway 89. We made the drive up from
the Bay Area, arriving at the park around 7pm. Reservations are pretty much a
necessity, available online through ReserveAmerica.
We set up our tent near the edge of the cliff, with a view through the forest
of the beach below. Each site has a picnic table, campfire pit, and bear box.
The bathrooms have flush toilets and there's even a shower - luxury camping
compared to some of the sites we're used to.
