Around Thanksgiving, we made the decision to rent a cabin near Bear Valley, between Christmas
and New Year's. Our plan was
to do mostly x-country skiing, and maybe some snowshoeing as well. As day after day of clear
weather turned to weeks of clear weather, we realized those plans would probably fall by the
wayside.
By the time we drove up on the day after Christmas, it was clear that our chances of skiing
were minimal at best. It hadn't snowed significantly for weeks, and there wasn't much in
the forecast. We figured we'd make the best of it. We left the Bay Area around 12:30pm,
encountered little traffic, and arrived at our cabin just after 4pm, even after stopping in
Angels Camp for some groceries.
