Jean and I flew from San Jose to Albuquerque on Thursday night, arriving in New
Mexico late at night. The plane taxied a really long way to the terminal -- I'm
not sure why the runways are so big. In any case, we adjusted our watches (New Mexico
is an hour difference), picked up our baggage, and took the shuttle to the rental
car area. The rental car center is a 3 or 4 minute drive away.
The rental car company we chose was just about to close when we arrived to pick up
our car. At least there were others still open in case we had to switch. We
chose to rent an SUV because of the number of dirt roads we figured we'd have to
drive on in the area. It would be a good choice.
We drove to our motel, where there was a "no vacancy" sign. Good for us we had
reservations. I had no idea it would be a problem on a Thursday night in Albuquerque,
but apparently there were graduation ceremonies at University of New Mexico, and
there was also some high school competition of some sort going on.
