July 4th is one of my favorite times to be out in the wilderness. While I get a long weekend away from work, many people decide to stay close to civilization so they can watch fireworks. Earlier this day I had hiked near here and realized it would make a perfect place for sunset pictures. After dinner, I made the 15 minute walk up the hill from the Highland Lakes campground. While others tended to their camp chores far below, I had the whole plateau to myself -- including this gorgeous view of Airola Peak to the south.
