We got up the next morning to partly cloudy skies. A slight chance of rain was forecast for today,
more likely on Monday. It was hazy sunshine as we made our way up to Angora Lakes. The road
is part paved, part dirt; it starts among the aspens and then climbs up to a ridge where Angora
Lookout sits. There were views on either side, but we decided we'd stop at the lookout on the
way back. Instead, we continued to the end of the road and hiked up to
Angora Lakes.
Mount Tallac from Angora Lookout
After the hike we drove back down the road to Angora Lookout. There are some great views of
Mount Tallac and Fallen Leaf Lake below. Unfortunately, trees partially block the view, so
you have to walk along the ridge to find the best viewpoint. The lookout is simply a collection
of buildings (under renovation at the time of this writing) with a small parking lot.

The road descends back down to Fallen Leaf Lake Road, which we took to the northern part of the
lake. There was one small patch of bright orange aspens, but most of the aspens were almost bare.
I wandered into the area to take a few pictures, but it wasn't nearly as good as when I'd visited
two years ago.

By this time we were getting hungry for lunch. We returned to South Lake Tahoe -- Raley's has a
nice deli with reasonably-priced sandwiches. After lunch we headed back to the Bay Area, stopping
at one of the many antique shops and also one of the many fruit and vegetable stands -- The
Fruit Bowl.
