Welcome!
Now spanning over 1800 miles on more than 300 hikes, you'll find a lot of information here, especially for hikes in the Bay Area and the Sierra Nevada. Enjoy!

9 August - 18 August 2013
Eastern Sierra Trip
A couple of short day hikes to acclimatize before a classic 7-day, 58-mile Sierra backpacking trip, from North Lake to South Lake.

13 July - 16 July 2013
Lassen Trip
A 4-day camping trip to Lassen Volcanic National Park, with day hikes to 4 lakes, with 2 waterfalls and lots of meadows.

22 June - 26 June 2013
Huntington Lake Trip
A 5-day camping trip to Huntington Lake (in the Sierra Nevada between Yosemite and Sequoia/Kings Canyon), with day hikes in the area to lakes, pools, and a waterfall.

5 October - 8 October 2012
Eastern Sierra Fall Trip
A 4-day trip to fall trip to the eastern Sierra Nevada with two hikes to a couple pretty alpine lakes, and a nice fall color drive.
31 August - 3 September 2012
Lake Tahoe Trip
A 4-day trip to Lake Tahoe with 3 day hikes, including a return to Mt. Tallac.

Some of my favorite hikes and trips:

Mount Dana Rae Lakes Loop Desolation Wilderness Loop
In August of 1998, we went on my first true test -- a 13,000 feet peak in Tuolumne Meadows. Altitude, hail, and lightning could not keep us from our goal. A 6-day backpacking trip into the heart of the Sierra with new amazing views every day. A 5-day backpacking trip in the Desolation Wilderness including at least 11 different lakes and magnificent mountain views.
Mount Tallac
Emigrant Wilderness
Mount Whitney
This was the first great hike. So far, it's also the prettiest, with the most magnificent views of Lake Tahoe, Fallen Leaf Lake, and surrounding peaks from the top. A 3-day backpacking trip in the Emigrant Wilderness. I've never seen so many beautiful lakes so close together. This trip report includes some of the best hikes in Tuolumne Meadows in Yosemite and an attempt on the highest peak in the United States outside of Alaska.
Seattle/Olympic/Rainier
Eastern Sierra Trip
Zion/Bryce Canyon/Grand Canyon
A 9-day trip to Seattle, including visits to the Hoh Rain Forest in Olympic National Park, and hikes in Mount Rainier National Park.

This 10-day trip includes several beautiful hikes in the Eastern Sierra Nevada.

Within a span of just a week we visited Zion, Bryce Canyon, and Grand Canyon national parks. Zion was my favorite, as we did a wonderful 3-day backpacking trip which left us feeling very isolated.
