I've always wanted to make a big list of stupid ways
to die. Things like having a spider drop onto you while driving, causing you to
crash your car. Well, I've never made that list (except in my head), so I guess
this is the closest thing I'll get to it.
All kidding aside, there are lots of
ways to become impaired or even die in the wilderness. Here's a list
and discussion of some of them. By the way,
Last Breath: Cautionary Tales from the Limits of Human Endurance by
Peter Stark is a great book on the subject of death in the wild.
Another is
Off the Wall: Death in Yosemite, which chronicles the varied ways
people have died in the park.
