I do wish the Swall Institute had curtains, but it was nice to wake up to the sound of birds
outside and a magnificent view of the eastern Sierra mountains outside the many windows.

After breakfast, it was already 80 degrees and climbing as we made the drive up toward Mammoth
Lakes. The Swall Institute is between 6500 and 7000 feet elevation, and thankfully it was a bit
cooler at the higher elevation of Mammoth Lakes. We drove up to Lake George and started our
hike to
Crystal Lake.
After the hike, we returned to Mammoth Lakes where we had dinner at busy Roberto's Mexican
restaurant, did some grocery shopping for the several days of camping ahead, then returned
to the Swall Institute.
