While it didn't get cold, it did sprinkle ever so slightly on our tent in the
early morning. By the time we got out of the tent at 8am, though, there was
no sign of any dampness. We packed up our sleeping bags and pads, leaving them
in the tent. We otherwise cleaned up most of our camp, leaving the food in the
bear box (you're not supposed to leave it in the car).
I left a note on our campsite pole noting that we would probably leave by 3pm
(check-out time is technically 12pm, and check-in at 1pm). Then we made
the very short drive over to the
Crags Lake trailhead.
After the hike, we drove back to the store for some sodas, then back to our campsite
to pack up. It took us only about an hour to pack up, and we were gone around 2:20pm.
We stopped at Manzanita Lake for some rock skipping, but there were two problems -
one, there wasn't a good selection of skipping rocks, and two, the water was a bit
choppy. Sifford Lake was by far the best rock skipping lake for us on this trip.
I can remember teaching my oldest son how to skip rocks just a few years ago, and now
he's nearly as good as me.
We stopped briefly at the Loomis Museum. I was thinking I could get a t-shirt, but
they only sold youth shirts; not much selection here. We finally left Lassen around
3:10pm, which ended up being perfect timing because we arrived in the Bay Area just
past rush hour traffic. In fact we encountered absolutely no traffic on the entire
drive back, arriving back in the Bay Area at 7:30pm.
