Wednesday morning, a man and his young daughter walked over from their site
across the road from us and introduced themselves. This turned out to be Dan
White, author of a book about his experience on the PCT. He was working on a
new book and wanted to interview us. We were happy to talk, but were trying to
get out onto the trail earlier today, so we told him to come back around 7pm.
Apparently we were a bit optimistic.
We drove up to the Sawtooth trailhead and hiked to
Monarch Lake.
We returned to camp around 6:45pm. When 7pm arrived, Dan could tell we
weren't interested in talking yet. We told him he could come by around 8:30pm
after we'd cleaned up and eaten dinner, but he said that might be too late and
we just ended up exchanging email addresses to get in touch later.
We noticed the campground starting to fill up ahead of the long weekend, but
there were a few sites still available.
