This morning we noticed some of our camp neighbors leave. I expected that since
it was July 4th today and there would be no fireworks nearby.
It's about a half hour drive to Weaverville. When we arrived, we saw them starting
to get ready for a July 4th parade and fireworks. We visited the
gas station and grocery store, then the in-store Starbucks for some brief Wifi
before heading back.
After the Weaverville visit, we hiked to
Stoddard Lake.
After the hike, we came back to a mostly empty campground. There were still a
handful of campers, including our nearest neighbor. After dinner, we waited for
darkness and were a little surprised that we didn't really hear any fireworks.
A couple small firecrackers and that's it. I'd expected a little more, even
though they're prohibited in the area.
