It had been a while since we'd visited the Sierra in the fall, looking for fall colors. In fact, it'd been 7 years! Youth sports would always get in the way. Finally, we'd be visiting the Eastern Sierra in fall again, and it looked like we picked a pretty good time to do it. Although there had been some snow and wind in weeks past, the forecast was for sunny weather and some areas were still near peak color.
On Friday, we didn't leave the Bay Area until almost 4:30pm. With a long stop for dinner in Oakdale, and groceries in Mammoth Lakes, we didn't arrive at our rental house in Small Meadows (between Bishop and Mammoth Lakes) until around 12:15am.
