After finishing our hike in Les Houches, we showered and repacked our bags, then waited at the hotel.
Our driver picked us up a bit early and we were at the Geneva airport around 6pm. We breezed through check-in and security, then fought through a mass of people to have dinner. Unfortunately, we then learned that our flight had been delayed. We weren't the only ones. It looked like half the flights listed on the board were either delayed or cancelled. Thankfully ours hadn’t been cancelled, but it was delayed. Instead of taking off around 9pm, it now wasn’t scheduled to leave until about 11:30. The thunderstorms we had witnessed were part of many that were causing havoc with European air travel.
Well I was wrong. Our flight was eventually cancelled. We didn’t find out until about 9pm. We looked for alternative flights but couldn’t find anything for the next two days. Eventually we decided that the fastest way to get back to Barcelona was to take a train. We booked a train for the morning, reclaimed our baggage, and took a taxi to a hotel near the train station. In all we spent about 4 hours in that airport…for nothing.
