We wanted to try to see some fall colors and decided to try our luck with the Seattle area this time.
Friday morning we arrived at SFO around 7:15am but were greeted with heavy traffic at the terminal. We finally made it to check in before finding out our flight had already been delayed by half an hour. But we eventually made it to Seattle around noon.
By the time we got the rental car and drove into downtown Seattle to our hotel, it was almost 2pm. We had a late lunch near the hotel, then drove over to Washington Park Arboretum. In particular, we visited the Japanese Garden there first. We've been to many Japanese gardens. This was nice, but not the biggest or prettiest. There were some fall colors, but nothing spectacular. There was a light sprinkle while we were there, but nothing you could really call rain.

Afterwards, we drove around to the visitor's center, then started walking toward the Japanese maples. We passed a totem pole, then saw the maples, but decided to keep going. We meandered around, eventually reaching the overlook gazebo before turning around. It was a pretty nice walk. At one point along the walk we saw UNION, by artist John Grade, which consists of two giant nets with blue and green resin pieces, apparently resembling the cell structure of western red cedars. You can walk right underneath both of the nets, which are attached to trees on all sides.

We drove over the Elliot Bay Book Company. The only problem was that finding parking was a big hassle. We probably circled around for at least 15 minutes before finding something. The bookstore itself is large, but not Powell's Books large. I saw a couple books I'd been thinking of getting, and decided to get them here.
