Sometimes, you're more likely to get injured driving to and from the trailhead
than from anything you'll encounter on the trail. Don't underestimate how
tired you'll be after a restless night in a tent followed by a long hike.
The most tired I can ever remember being was after long hikes at Mt. Whitney
and the Ventana Wilderness. I could not have stayed awake for a long drive
after either hike. Be safe -- know your limits.
Stay an extra night if you have to. Your life may depend
on it -- people fall asleep at the wheel and die all the time, and what
better situation to do so than after an exhausting hike.
Do you really need to get back to work one day sooner?
