Hiking Hazards - Falling Trees and Rocks

Trees and branches can fall, injuring or even killing people below. Be aware of your surroundings, keeping your eyes and ears open. This is most important when setting up a tent. Make sure you're not in the line of fire of any suspect trees. Make sure any trees you're camping near look healthy. Be especially careful after storms may have weakened trees, or if there are high winds forecast.

In some areas, rockfall is another thing to be aware of. This is especially important in Yosemite Valley, where rockfalls have resulted in at least 17 fatalities and 85 injuries.
