Angie, Dave, Greg, Jennie, Jennifer, Joe, Tillie, and I went to Loch
Lomond Recreation Area near Santa Cruz.
We were supposed to do the 5 mile Highland trail, but
unfortunately took a wrong turn and ended up on the Loch Sloy trail.
We started out on the Loch Trail, which follows the lake shore.
It's relatively flat but not very well maintained. We could tell that
hikers don't visit these trails often because the trails were covered
with growth and we kept on running into invisible cobwebs. We
eventually hit the Loch Sloy Service Road and turned right instead of
turning left like we should have. From there we hiked up a bit until
we could see the road we drove down to get to the start! It wasn't
until I got back and got a trail mail that I discovered what had
happened.
There's not a lot to see. The lake itself is very pretty, but the
area is mostly for fishing. We also didn't run into any other hikers
along the way. There's a lesson to be learned here -- always get a
trail mail beforehand if possible.
Sorry, no pictures.
