As the birds started chirping to signal the start of a new day
(at about 5 in the morning!), we put the rain fly on as it was
getting cold and bright. A couple hours later we were up and having
breakfast.
After breakfast we drove a short distance to the Cedar Grove market,
where we picked up some ice for our cooler -- and to get exact
change for our second night of camping. After a brief stop back
at our camp, it was on to Road's End (approximately 5000 feet elevation).
No road crosses the Sierra in Kings Canyon or Sequoia National
Parks, and this road was no exception. We parked and hiked to Paradise Valley.
After returning from our hike we drove back to camp and had a
well-earned meal of rice, salmon, and corn on the cob! Yummy.
This night was a bit cooler, so we kept the rain fly on the entire
night.
