I got up at 6am and soon after started waking everyone up. I wanted
to get started on the trail by 9am. After breakfast we drove to
the Wolverton parking lot in the Giant Forest area. It was just
after 9:30am when we started hiking up to Alta Peak.
After the hike we returned to camp. Gone were all our neighbors
save one. Just a single tent, a single car, and a single neighbor.
Perhaps they all left to go watch fireworks.
It was about 10pm when we were finally finishing up dinner, and
we had a little accident. Somehow the boiling water Jennie was
using to cook corn ended up in her lap. Not really knowing what
to do, we applied ice and started to apply Neosporin before realizing
that was making it worse. We flagged down a ranger who told us
that ice and Neosporin were no-nos, and that we should start dousing
the burn with cold water. The first layer of skin was already
peeling while we doused cold water over the burn continuously.
