Hiking Hazards - Stings

Hornets, bees, wasps, and yellow jackets. Ouch! If you are allergic to bee stings, be sure to bring medication and have people around you who know how to administer it.

They like black, red, and blue colors -- avoid wearing these colors. They like fruit, red meat, sodas, and food packed in heavy syrup. If stung, scrape the stinger out with your fingernail -- don't try to grab it and pull it out, as this will just make it worse. Benzocaine will numb the site. An antihistamine will alleviate swelling and itching. If an allergic reaction occurs, use epinephrine.
