2001 Lake Tahoe Trip Report

Day 4 of 5

Sunday, July 22nd
Tahoe Rim Trail north of Spooner Lake

Originally, we'd planned to hike up to the top of Mount Tallac this day. However, we decided that it wouldn't be enjoyable to hike Tallac on one day and Rose on the next. Besides, all of us except Phil had already been to the top of Tallac before. So while I definitely want to revisit the top of Tallac and its beautiful summit views, that will have to wait for another year. Instead, I pored over more maps and guidebooks before settling on a hike along the Tahoe Rim Trail north of Spooner Lake.

After the hike we drove up Highway 28 back to the cabin. Leslie and Phil headed back to the Bay Area while Jean, Jennie and I remained to prepare for our hike up Mount Rose on the following day.

My weather radio and the Weather Channel had the same forecast for Monday -- clear in the morning, partly cloudy in the afternoon with a slight chance of thunderstorms. Not exactly what I wanted to hear, having been chased off the summit of Tallac by thunderstorms 2 years earlier. So we committed to an early start in the hopes of being off the summit well before any possible thunderstorms.
