We slept to the pleasant sound of the water rushing through the creek overnight, then
awoke to another bright, sunny, warm day. After breakfast, we made the very short drive
to the end of Glacier Lodge Road and the trailhead for the hike to
Second Falls.
After the hike, we drove down the road to Big Pine, about a 15-20 minute drive, for some
post-hike ice cream and some supplies. We returned to our camp for dinner. One thing I
feel I should point out is that the water at camp tasted terrible. I'm not sure if it
was just the spigot near our site, but whatever the case, it had a terrible after-taste.
Strangely, the bagged ice I bought in Big Pine tasted just as awful. I had Jean taste it
just to make sure it wasn't me. We had to buy bottled water just to have something
drinkable for the next day, although we still used the camp water for cooking and washing.
While mosquitoes were not a major problem at the campground, pollen was everywhere. So
if you've got allergies (like I do), make sure to bring your medicine. The yellow stuff
fell everywhere, it was quite disturbing.
