We got up in the morning and smelled the smoke in the air, even miles
away from the fire.

In the morning, we visited the Okanagan Lavendar farm. We tried to
visit the winery at Kelowna Land & Orchard, but it was apparently closed due
to the fire. The fire wasn't close, really, and the air quality seemed
reasonable, so I can only guess that some of the workers lived near the fire.
There were still goats and chickens here, and the kids enjoyed feeding apples to
the goats.

We found a restaurant near the beach, then spent the afternoon at City Park
in Kelowna. There's a playground and beach here. It was crowded, even with the
fires continuing in the hills on the other side of the lake. We could see cars
going across the bridge, but the highway was still closed shortly after that.
Still the only way to get from Kelowna to Peachland was to take the long
circuitous route. Not many homes were lost to the fire, but thousands of residents were
evacuated from their homes.
With a little time to kill, we decided to stop by a grocery store and buy all
the non-perishable grocery items we'd need for our 11 days of camping. We figured
we'd pick up the perishable items on our first day of camping.
After our shopping spree, we went in search of a restaurant for dinner. As we
entered the restaurant, we could see smoke billowing up into the sky to the northwest.
This was actually a different fire than the one that had closed the highway, this one
called the Terrace Mountain fire.

After dinner, we drove back toward our B&B. We stopped at the intersection of Hart Road
and McCulloch Road in Kelowna, where several other cars were stopped, waiting for the
sunset. From here there's a wonderful view of the golf course below and Okanagan Lake
beyond.

We didn't stay for sunset, opting to head up to our B&B, where we caught the last bits
of the sunset.
