We packed up and left our rental house just as it started to snow. I knew from previous experience
where to get a Sno-Park parking permit (the hardware store near the Safeway). I picked up the $5
permit there, then we drove to the Donner Summit Sno-Park.
After enjoying some sledding at the Sno-Park, we zipped back to the Bay Area, encountering almost
no traffic and taking less than 4 hours for the return trip. A constant rain and wind hit the Bay
Area on Monday, and snow in the Sierra Nevada. It felt a bit strange to leave a day early, but I'm
glad we didn't have to deal with the traffic and weather.
