The morning was clear and free of any hint of snow to come, despite the fact that we knew 3 storms
were lined up coming in from the Pacific. After breakfast we made the half hour drive north to
do a snowshoe hike to
Kyburz Flat.
After the hike, we stopped by the Safeway in Truckee for some groceries. It was insane. I asked
the cashier if it was always this crowded on a Saturday night, and she replied it was probably
worse because it was a long weekend and a storm was coming.
That night we decided we would leave the next day, rather than make it a 4-day stay. This was
mainly due to the fact that the storm was coming and that it would be snowing on Sunday and worse
on Monday. I've been stuck in enough winter driving situations (being stuck on I-80 for about
11 hours once being foremost in my mind) that I didn't want to repeat the situation with 2 kids.
Plus, the fact that Jared had trouble with a 2 mile snowshoe hike meant we didn't have many options
as far as other snowshoe hikes for Sunday or Monday.
