In the morning, we woke up and looked out the windows to see that it was sunny
and clear. The mountains were covered with a sheet of snow. Now I had to figure out
what hike to do today. The one hike I'd been meaning
to do was a 6 mile hike starting at South Lake. However, since this was the first day
and we'd be hiking at altitude, I thought something shorter would be better. I eventually
decided on Ruby Lake in Rock Creek Canyon, partially because I had read online reports that
color was good in the canyon. Having made our decision, we made the drive to the trailhead
for Ruby Lake.
