It rained again during the night, but only briefly. It rained again around 8am, but only for a few minutes. Still, it was overcast as we drove into Kapa'a town. We picked up some food and
drove to the start of the
Nounou Mountain hike.
After the hike, we returned to nearby downtown Kapa'a. We had shave ice at the Hee Fat General Store. It was supposed to be one of the best on the island, and it didn't disappoint. Whereas the shave ice at the place in Hanalei was hard, the shave ice at Hee Fat was like eating fine powdery snow. I got the root beer float, which the man behind the counter explained to me wasn't actually a root beer float -- it was vanilla ice cream topped with shave ice flavored with root beer and blue vanilla syrup. Delicious.
Afterwards it was still early so we returned to our rental house.
Later, we tried to go to a Japanese restaurant for dinner, but it was full and there was a long wait. Just a reminder that finding a restaurant can be hard, even on a Monday night; in Hawaii, every night belongs to the tourists, so every place can be crowded. We ended up eating at Shrimp Station, instead (this one actually had an inside where we could sit, unlike the one in Waimea).
Afterwards, we returned to our rental house and began to pack for the return home the next day.
