Since we'd gotten in late the night before, we hadn't gotten a lot of sleep.
Since this was our first day of hiking at altitude on the trip, I decided
something relatively easy would be in store. Though I knew it wouldn't
provide much in the way of fall colors, I decided on a hike to Arrowhead and Skelton Lakes.
After the hike, we stopped in Mammoth Lakes to pick up some ice cream, then
stopped at Convict Lake. I knew the views from the parking area wouldn't
be the best, but I figured we might as well stop by since it's only about
2 miles from highway 395 and it was sort of on the way back. As expected,
there wasn't a lot to see. It was late in the day, so the sun was already
gone from the lake. There were some colors visible at the far end of the lake,
but of course the best views are probably at the far end of the lake, a place
we'd hiked to on a previous trip. For now, though, we were just looking
from afar.

We drove back to the rental house, then rested up for the next day's hike.
