After months of planning, and weeks of prepping our gear and food, we
were finally heading off on our trip, ready for our 7-day backpacking
adventure. Since the first night of our backpacking trip would involve
camping at 11,000 feet, I decided some acclimatization was in order. So
I planned for 3 nights of sleeping at Mammoth Lakes (over 7500 feet
elevation).
We were hoping to leave a bit earlier, but finally left the Bay Area
at 4:45pm on a Friday afternoon. As you can imagine, we ran into some
traffic, about an hour's worth of delays. We eventually made it to
Oakdale for dinner, then drove through Yosemite (Tioga Pass Road) and
then down 395 to Mammoth Lakes, where we arrived a bit after 11:30pm.
After a stop at the grocery store, we were off to our house rental.
