We hadn't gone car camping in a while (only backpacking), so I was looking to
plan a trip for June. Back in late March I decided to look for campsites in
Humboldt Redwoods State Park. It was already booked solid on the weekends, so
I reserved the next best thing, a 3-night trip starting on a Sunday night.
We left the Bay Area a little before 1pm. We stopped briefly a couple times,
including Garberville to pick up some ice. Garberville is probably the last
good place to stock up on supplies before the park. Thankfully, it was cold
enough that the ice lasted the entire trip (even all the way back home on
Wednesday).
After a nice drive through the redwoods from Highway 101 up Mattole Road,
we arrived at Albee Creek Campground around 6:15pm. There was no one on
duty at the campground, but we easily found our reserved site and set up
camp. After dinner we took a brief stroll in the nearby field before bed.
