Today, we hiked the
Tamarack Peak Loop.
After the hike, we had dinner at our rental house. Then Nathan and I went over to
Sand Harbor to take some sunset pictures. There's an entrance fee at all times,
$10 for Nevada vehicles, and $15 for others. We arrived about 25 minutes before
sunset. The lot was almost full, but we found a space, then quickly started walking.
There's a boardwalk that leads to an area with boulders in the water. Unfortunately for us, there
was also a play going on (as there is almost every night), and security had blocked
off the boardwalk behind the stage. We had to walk on the sand around this section
and enter the boardwalk on the other side. It's kind of steep near the far end,
as well (it's not a stroll in the park).
Anyway, we made it to the other side (with sand in our shoes), then walked over to the
rocks. There was still a little bit of daylight and we took some pictures before the
sun set. And when the sun set, there wasn't much to see. But there were some clouds
in the sky so we knew to wait. A few minutes later the colors started forming in the
sky. It turned out to be a pretty nice sunset. Meanwhile, we saw boys playing in the
water below, a couple of women in a kayak out on the lake, some almost imperceptible ducks,
and one bird in the sky.

After taking our pictures, we tried to avoid the blocked off theater section by going the
other direction. Unfortunately we ran into a dead end because that part of the boardwalk
was closed off by construction. So we had to turn around and go back to the beach behind the
stage again. While we were walking on the beach we saw some geese, and they just took
off in flight after a few minutes.

If I had to do it again, I'd probably visit the area closer to the boat ramp. This is at
least the second time I've been here, and I don't think I've made it over there yet.
There's also a boardwalk that runs along the shore to the north. Maybe a better option
would be to park at Memorial Point (presumably free), if there are any spaces.
