I wanted to do a longer acclimatization hike today, but something not too
strenuous that it would tire us out before we even started our backpacking
trip. I considered Parker Lake, a hike we'd done before, but I didn't
really want to make the long drive over there. Plus, you know I always prefer
to do hikes I haven't done before. I eventually decided on
Sherwin Lakes.
After the hike, we retuned to our rental house and started finalizing our
packs. There's a constant struggle of deciding which gear to take, like
whether to bring one type of pillow or another, making trade-offs of
comfort vs. size/weight. That night, we more or less finished with my
pack at about 60 pounds, Jean's at 35, Nathan's at 20, and Jared's at 14.
I knew there were a few minor adjustments to be made, and Jared already
was complaining about carrying 14 pounds. Still, we were close enough
that I could get a little sleep the night before our trip.
